This year’s festive cheer will be provided by a South-Yorkshire based band which we first had the presenting in 2015 and have since become firm favourites with our audience.
Formed in 2012 with a view to bringing a fresh approach to the jazz world, Washington Whirligig has very quickly gained an enviable reputation for it’s versatility and professionalism. They have also taken the jazz club scene by storm, earning high praise and gaining great reviews wherever they perform. Playing early New Orleans through to driving mainstream jazz, swing and blues, they have a programme for every occasion. Perhaps a little younger than most bands on the current jazz scene, however, all members of the band are experienced musicians, respected within the industry, and all share the limelight on stage. A mutual respect within the band for the fabulous Alex Welsh outfits from the 1960’s and 70’s has given Washington Whirligig a unique sound built on the traditions of possibly the greatest British jazz band of them all.
David Hepworth (clarinet & saxes), Andy Henderson (trumpet), Andy Bramall (guitar), Liz Hepwoth (bass), Rob Cotterell (drums)
