We are delighted to welcome back a very popular band which has strong local connections. Sadly, this will the final performance at NRC for New Orleans Heat as they have decided to call it a day and this is one of a series of farewell gigs
In December 1998 the British jazz scene lost one of its major exponents in the New Orleans style, Derby clarinetist Chris Blount. His spirit lives on in this fine band which was originally formed by his faithful sidemen.
New Orleans Heat are a seven-piece band playing the old-style New Orleans jazz, recreating the music of the crescent city, be it a stomp, blues, hymn, spiritual or pop song of the day in the style of the late great, Bunk Johnson, George Lewis and Kid Thomas bands. Their motto is “helping to keep the real jazz alive”
Richard Church (trumpet), Dave Vickers (trombone) Roger Bird (clarinet & tenor sax), Barry Grumett (piano), Alan Birkinhead (banjo), Rob Smith (bass), Ray Bowden (drums).
